Hi! You’re on my private portfolio page! Here’s the link back to the main section if you get lost: www.mashafalkov.com/portfolio
Character and Graphic Design
In a perfect world these would be separate, but I have somehow hit the maximum number of SquareSpace pages. Alas.
Unstable Scientific Characters
These are the main characters in Unstable Scientific. They’re based off friends I have today and people I admired when I was younger. Even though the hero does end up with guns (he has non-violent options too!), I wanted all the characters’ primary skillsets to be in the sciences and invention. It took a long time and a lot of notebooks to develop all of them. There are Procreate folders full of comics and experimental dialogue and storylines that will never happen. They serve no purpose other than to see how Lev, Tau, Pixel and Chandra would react in a wide number of situations.
A slideshow of the main characters in various settings - cutscenes, loading screens, sprites and sketches.
Minor characters and rescuable NPC dialogue screens.
NPC SPRITESHEET SYSTEM
This is a system I created to quickly create a variety of NPCs for Unstable Scientific. I couldn’t find any working software that could do what I needed. You can select character features such as head shape, hair, clothing, and accessories from layers, transform it into a sprite sheet to change the colors, and then use a series of Photoshop scripts to turn the sprite sheets into animated gifs for export.
Presently this system is being reworked in favor of a new one, in order to improve the quality of the animation.
Family Character Commission
A family recently commissioned me to draw them as superheroes, each expressing their favorite things. They enjoyed it so much that they requested the individual images to use as their Zoom icons.
Riders On The Worm
I wanted to learn how to use Kickstarter in the summer of 2020, so I designed this sticker and ran a small but successful campaign where I doubled my original goal. To my delight I found Dune fans all over the world, and now know far more about the creation of stickers than I ever expected.
In 2015 I was commissioned for the poster art for the Conscious Culture Festival in Tonasket, Washington. The art was subsequently used on all types of merchandise from t-shirts, water bottles, and even bottles of ale!
